They could have already solved this if they just used explosives to collapse the well. I suppose ecologic disaster and bankruptcy is a more attractive option though.
Explosives tend to be devastating under water because water isn’t elastic like air and the shockwave travels much farther.
However I do think they wasted time trying to preserve their access to the oil. They would have had means to obstruct the well, maybe not as simple as dumping rocks on it, but still not rocket science.

As depressing as this disaster of Biblical Proportions is, I thought this was funny. I also had to laugh at Bill Maher talking about the underwater robot making the jackoff motion to the camera.

BP had nothing to do with it. It was a mechanical difficulty that could have happened to any company. My father works for BP and people are more than likely going to try to sue BP for something. This might cost him his job. If he loses his job, my family will have no source of income except for my part time job. You should think before leaving immature comments slamming a company over something you probably don’t understand.
Not every company has the potential of dumping millions upon millions of gallons of oil into the ocean and destroying nearly as much as this one incident already has. So you really think that this could happen to, “any company?” If a deep fryer at my work springs a leak, we can clean it up… no big deal, no ecological impact. When dealing with crude oil, you’d think that they’d take a few extra precautionary measures.
Does it suck that your dad could lose his job? Yeah. Does it suck that businesses have been effected because of BP? Yes. Are they trying to fix it? Kinda…
Get over yourself. Think about some of the other people this has effected. If you feel that strongly, get out there and do something to help rather than bitching at people who, for the most part, have a damn good reason for their distaste for BP.
I’m not condoning the fact that the oil spill is a good thing, I’m just saying that this doesn’t mean the company is evil or stupid.
Although a slim possibility of a job loss, I certainly hope it doesn’t happen.
There are just some things that happen in this world that you don’t have a lot of control over.
This is an update from BP America’s official facebook page and website. Alert: BP has been partnering with the Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research to help recover and clean impacted wildlife. Experts have been on the ground in affected areas since late April. Researching is productive.
It also gives a link to the bird rescue site, and gives a number to call if you see an injured animal.
